The entire poem is pure beauty and poignancy wrapped up together so eloquently. I love this poem as much as I love you (which is a whole lot!). Thank you for this offering 🤍

Thank you for sharing. I’m about to embark on an 8 day backcountry trek across Isle Royale in Lake Superior. Although I’ve been there several times this will be my first solo trek of the island and the first since the passing of my father and my brother. For me this is starting to feel more like a pilgrimage than a long overdue backpacking trip. My father is the one who first introduced me to the beauty of the natural world and really fostered that connection in me. The UP of Michigan and Lake Superior were his, everything about the place is a reminder of him.

Thank you for sharing Eric. I am sorry for your losses, and pray your father makes himself known or remembered in a new way on this pilgrimage of yours. The Great Lakes sure have a magical way of sharing the weight, lightening the load. What a gift, to foster a deep connection with a place like Isle Royale. May the poems be plenty and the rain be mild as you venture out to meet that parcel of earth again. Safe travels!

Truly brilliant poem Kat! Thank you for sharing. Your workshop sounds amazing too, but sadly those dates don't work for me. That said, please keep us posted of other such opportunities in the area, as I'm sure that something will work eventually. Cheers! ☺️

I am such a westerner, and committed to the space that implies, but there are times I wish our vast tapestry of a country was a little more manageably-sized. I'd love to write with you in Maine (a place I have never yet visited). This is a seed I am planting.

Indeed Tara... it's a lot to get from one side to another! You would no doubt find a great deal of inspiration from the Maine landscapes, albeit quite different from the inspirations of home. Conversely, I'd like to get back out west to refill my creative well in ways that only the west can. One day, for us both 💙

The pic looks like The Point in Tawas Bay where I was born and raised. One of my sacred places. Many times I have seen driftwood figures on the beach. Hmm

Ah, these bits of driftwood were planted on Hammond Bay, between Rogers and Cheboygan. I wonder if some of them (or others) have made their way down to Tawas :) Good to meet another lake worshiper.
